In all honesty, there is nothing overwhelmingly fantastic about the Blackberry device itself. PDA devices had built-in mobile and Internet capabilities long before Blackberry became a household name. With that said, the Blackberry technology itself was a major breakthrough in mobile technologies, and it's the Blackberry service that finally led to the popularity of this device. It's the ability of this service to stay connected instantly to your home or office network that made it the top mobile devices today - with its own cult followed by avid enthusiasts and users.
The recent Blackberry 9000 series has been designed and runs on the Intel Xscale processor
624MHz CPU. The previous version of the Blackberry cell phones worked with an 80MHz processor and, therefore, comparatively slower in downloading 3G web pages.
Blackberry uses an IPD file for its data storage. A single IPD is used for database management that makes the performance even faster.
The technology covers simple features like calendar, reminders and games, along with the basic applications of making and receiving calls and messages. Besides the basic features it also allows you to send emails and browse web pages.
Manufacturers have also tied up with several vendors as
Microsoft, IBM and Novell to integrate Outlook, Notes and Groupwise
On these phones. Almost all phones made with Blackberry technology have Bluetooth integrated into them. Some models also have built-in cellular walkie talkie feature.
Working
As we all know, there is always software behind the hardware. This is true for blackberry too. Blackberry server software comes in two forms;
1. BlackBerry Professional Software (BPS)
2. BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES)
The way the BlackBerry server works applies to both the BlackBerry Professional
Software (BPS) and BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES).
