The fuzzy logic control algorithm (FLC) provides a means of converting a linguistic control technique and is widely used in vehicle applications. This work demonstrates the application of the fuzzy logic technique to design a controller for the active suspension system of the vehicle to improve the performance of the suspension system by altering the number and arrangement of established rules and the universe of speeches. A mathematical model and the equations of motion of the active suspension of the fourth vehicle are derived and solved using the MATLAB / Simulink software. Proposed fuzzy controllers using rules 9, 25, and 49 established with two different types of trapezoidal and triangular membership functions are implemented in a closed-loop control system to demonstrate the influence of rule set numbers and type Of membership function in the Suspension System Performance. The performance criteria of the suspension were evaluated in both time domain and frequency domain. Performance comparisons were obtained between the passive suspension, as a reference, and the proposed controllers of the active suspension. The results of the simulation indicate that the proposed active fuzzy controllers can dissipate the energy due to road excitation effectively and improve the performance of the suspension. Among the systems investigated, the 25 rules established with a trapezoidal membership function for the fuzzy controller gives the best performance.
