An integrated treatment of continuous time and discrete time systems for two postgraduate courses or an undergraduate course and a postgraduate course. It covers mainly two areas of modern control theory, namely; System theory and multivariate and optimal control. The coverage of the former is quite exhaustive while that of the latter is adequate with the significant provision of the necessary subjects that allows a research student to understand various technical documents. The emphasis is on the interdisciplinary nature of the subject. Practical problems of control of various engineering disciplines have been drawn to illustrate potential concepts. Most of the theoretical results have been presented in a suitable way for the digital programming of computers together with the algorithms necessary for numerical calculations.
