There are numerous machine tools, which produce round holes, but many engineering components require square and non-circular holes. In the present situation, square orifices and non-circular holes are produced using CNC or spark erosion or slitting machines. A quality machine tool to produce square and polygonal holes are rarely available at low cost. This work aims to help small-scale production floors where there is a drilling machine and the scope of work is extended to be made in a slot machine as well. Using this project, the slots can be cut into work pieces using a drilling machine. This project is an attempt to design and manufacture an accessory for the drilling machine that would produce square and polygonal holes much easier than the currently available methods. This is done using a reversal of the sliding crank mechanism. This accessory can be fixed in the drilling machine or in a vertical milling machine.
