Greater flamingo is the most widespread species of the flamingo family. It is found in Africa in the Indian subcontinent in the Middle East and southern Europe. This is the largest species of flamingo, with an average of 110-150 cm (43-59 in) in height and a weight of 2-4 kg (4.4-8.8 lb). The largest male flamingos have been recorded up to 187 cm (74 in) tall and 4.5 kg (9.9 lb). It is closely related to American flamenco and Chilean flamenco, with which it has sometimes been considered conspecific.
