A natural disaster is an important adverse event that results from the natural processes of the Earth; Examples include floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis and other geological processes. A natural disaster can cause loss of life or damage to property, and typically leaves some economic damage in its wake, the severity of which depends on the resilience of the affected population, or resilience and also on the available infrastructure .

An adverse event will not reach the level of a disaster if it occurs in an area without a vulnerable population. However, in a vulnerable area like Nepal during the earthquake of 2015, an earthquake can have disastrous consequences and leave lasting damage, which may require years of repair.

The various types of natural disasters that can occur in the world. Each can be very powerful and cause serious damage to the environment and the people who live there.

Now let's take a look at the different types of natural disasters that can happen.

Tremors

We will start with earthquakes. An earthquake occurs when the earth releases suppressed energy and causes the soil to agitate. The soil of the Earth is composed of several very large pieces of land called tectonic plates. Most earthquakes occur when these plates rub against each other in some way. These same dishes also create mountains when they are pushed against each other. As mountains form, earthquakes can be felt. Sometimes people cause earthquakes when they make mine explosions or nuclear tests.

Hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones

Hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones refer to the same weather phenomenon, where a very large storm rotates in circles. You will see the storm cloud spinning in a spiral, tapping down on the ground, and then reaching into the sky. When a storm reaches a wind speed of more than 74 miles per hour, it is classified as a hurricane, a typhoon or a cyclone, depending on where the storm is. The storm is called a hurricane if it occurs in the Atlantic and the North Pacific. If the storm occurs in the northwestern part of the Pacific, then it is called a typhoon. In the Southwest Pacific and Indian Ocean, the same type of storm is called a cyclone.

Tsunamis

A tsunami consists of huge waves caused by an earthquake underwater or a volcanic eruption. In Japanese, the word means "port wave". These waves can reach as high as 100 feet and are not the gentle waves you navigate on. No, these are destructive waves that can knock down buildings, trees and anything else in their path.

Floods

A flood is an overflow of water that covers the earth. This overflow can damage buildings and cars on their way. In a severe flood, water can seep into the houses and cover them completely, ruining everything. And, if people are caught in the flood, they can be dragged by the flood and drown.

Mud slides

Sludge mudslides occur when the soil gets so wet that any dirt in the soil becomes a liquid mass and flows, like a flood, quickly up a steep slope. When people or animals are caught in the landslide, it becomes very difficult to leave, as the mud drags them down. If they are not rescued, they can die.

Avalanches

An avalanche is when you have a lot of snow, ice, or rocks that fall quickly down a slope, usually a slope. You might have seen movies where someone stands next to a mountain with a bunch of snow on top. He or she screams something and then you see all the snow falling down the slope towards him or her. That's an avalanche. Avalanches can bury living people and animals.
