In ad hoc mobile networks, all nodes have energy limitations. In such situations, it is important to reduce energy consumption. In this paper, we consider the issues of energy efficient communication in MANETs using network coding. Network coding is an effective method to improve the performance of wireless networks. The COPE protocol implements the concept of network coding to reduce the number of transmissions by blending the packets into intermediate nodes. We incorporated COPE into the cluster-based routing protocol to further reduce power consumption. The cluster-based routing protocol (ECCRP) scheme based on energy-efficient coding is applicable to network coding in cluster heads to reduce the number of transmissions. We also modified the COPE protocol queue management procedure to further improve coding opportunities. We also use an energy efficiency scheme while selecting the head of the cluster. It helps to increase the life time of the network. The performance of the energy efficiency proposal based on a protocol cluster using the simulation is evaluated. The results of the simulation show that the proposed ECCRP algorithm reduces energy consumption and increases the lifetime of the network.
Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANET) suffer from energy depletion, since many nodes use the batteries as a source. Energy consumption is one of the most important criteria for system design optimization in MANETs. Conventional routing protocols do not consider the power of nodes when selecting routes. Therefore, using the same path for a longer duration leads to partitioning of the network. Therefore, considering the energy of the nodes while selecting a route efficiently uses the nodal energy and helps extend the useful life of the network. This article attempts to modify the popular AODV request routing protocol to make it aware of power. The proposed algorithm also varies the transmission power between two nodes according to their distance. The protocols are simulated using Network Simulator (NS-2.34). The performance of both protocols is analyzed under various conditions and the proposed scheme shows the efficient use of energy and the increase in the useful life of the network.
