ABOUT INDIAN RAILWAYS
Indian Railways is India’s lifeline and the largest mode of transport. It is probably one of the largest and busiest rail networks in the world, transporting eighteen million passengers daily. The country’s vastness and diversity have been connected and coordinated by the largest railway network in Asia. Passengers and goods with equal importance are carried everyday by Railways from one corner of the country to the other. Indian Railways Freight Services are one of the economical ways to carry goods from one place to another, especially, if the quantities of the goods are large .Secondly, the network that the Indian Railways covers huge with a total length of more than 63,327 kms. Indian Railways carries a wide range of goods through its vast network, ranging from small assignments, raw materials, agricultural products, petroleum products, garments, and other finished goods and many more. Indian Railways Freight Services plays a major role in the development of railway network in the country as it generates a huge amount of revenue.
INDIAN RAILWAYS:
Indian Railways, abbreviated as IR, is the state-owned railway company of India, which owns and operates most of the country's rail transport. It is overseen by the Ministry of Railways of the Government of India.

As to rolling stock, IR owns over 200,000 (freight) wagons, 50,000 coaches and 8,000 locomotives. Railways were first introduced to India in 1853. By 1947, the year of India's independence, there were forty-two rail systems. In 1951 the systems were nationalized as one unit, becoming one of the largest networks in the world. IR operates both long distance and suburban rail systems on a multi-gauge network of broad meter and narrow gauges. It also owns locomotive and coach production facility
SOUTH CENTRAL RAILWAY WAGON WORKSHOP:
Indian Railways is divided into zones, which are further sub-divided into divisions. The number of zones in Indian Railways increased from six to eight in 1951, nine in 1952, and finally 16 in 2003. Each zonal railway is made up of a certain number of divisions, each having a divisional headquarters. There are a total of sixty-seven divisions. South Central Railway is one of those zones. POH PROCEDURE OF WAGONS IN WAGON WORKSHOP, GUNTUPALLI
INTRODUCTION:
Wagon repairs are generally two types:
1) Brake down maintenance repairs
2) Preventive maintenance repairs by periodically
To avoid failures and to get free services, wagon required maintenance periodically to keep the stock in good fettle.
POH means periodical over hauling. The first POH period of wagon is 6 years and subsequently by every 4 ½ years. The coral life of wagons is 30 years.
PRE-INSPECTION:
As soon as the formation received for POH required into shop grid lines, firstly a joint check or pre-inspection done by the both RPF and mechanical (PCD) staff/representatives for noting of any deficiencies or left of unwanted materials if any .The mechanical staff of the yard also notify the previous history of wagon.
The Inspection staff belongs to SSE/Inspection & PCO staff will segregate the wagons in to class of repair like Heavy repair, Medium repair or Light repair. Unloadable wagons also segregated in to B, C category. After this, wagons are fed to stripping bay wise for stripping process.
