A session is as simple as a two-way phone call. SIP was primarily designed to establish, modify, and terminate sessions, This simplicity makes SIP quite scalable and extensible, and it can be used easily in different architectures and deployment scenarios. SIP is already being used for all kinds of innovative applications and services, and its importance in mobile networks will continue to grow.
