India has an asymmetric federal government, with elected officials at the federal, state and local levels. At the national level, the head of government, the prime minister, is elected by the members of Lok Sabha, the lower house of the parliament of India. The elections are conducted by the Electoral Commission of India. All members of the Lok Sabha, except two who may be nominated by the President of India, are elected directly by general elections held every five years, under normal circumstances, by universal suffrage of adults and a post- Post-post. Members of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament, are elected by elected members of the Legislative Assemblies of the States and the Electoral College for the Union Territories of India.
The general elections of 2014 included an electorate of 863,500,000 people (larger than the combined EU and US elections). Declared expenditures have tripled since 1989 to almost $ 300 million, using more than one million electronic voting machines.
The size of the huge electorate forces the elections to take place in several phases (there were nine phases in the general elections of 2014). It is a series of step-by-step processes from the announcement of the elections to the announcement of the results that pave the way for the formation of the new government.
Steps
The most important steps involved in the electoral process in India are:
1. Formation of groups
2. Filled Nominations
3. Scrutiny of candidacies
4. Election Campaign
5. The voting staff and the voting team
6. Voucher Account and Income Statement
7. Presentation of the Account related to Electoral Expenses
8. Electoral Disputes.
