NON SURGICAL PERIODONTAL THERAPY
AAP treatment guidelines stress that periodontal health should be achieved in the least invasive and most cost-effective manner. This is often accomplished through non-surgical periodontal treatment, including
scaling and root planing (a careful cleaning of the root surfaces to remove plaque and calculus [tartar] from deep periodontal pockets and to smooth the tooth root to remove bacterial toxins)
antimicrobials adjunctive therapy which involves the prescription of antibiotics after root planing.
PERIODONTAL SURGERY
Those that are limited to the elimination of disease and producing conditions to prevent its recurrence.
a. Pocket reduction/elimination procedures.
- Gingivectomy
- Inverse bevel Gingivectomy
- Apical reposition flap
b. Root surface exposure procedure for open scaling and root planing.
- Replaced flap(modified Widman flap)
Oral hygiene instruction which includes ; the use of warm saline mouth rinse, brushing twice daily and the correct brushing technique.
