The IT Packages and services available in India can be broadly
classified into the following 6 types:
(I) Stand-alone branch-level packages
(ii) Multi-branch solutions
(iii) Foreign Packages
(iv) Packages for specialized niche areas
(v) Service Branch / high-volume transaction processing
packages
(vi) IT Services
As guided by our faculty, we have classified our research and analysis in three parts
and we have provided the detailed analysis accordingly.
Q.1) How will IT systems help the organization improve its
processes?
Answer:
We went to the manager of Branch and discussed with him about the IT
system installed in Bank and we also inquired about the working of branch
as well as bank before implementation of IT Systems.
He was reluctant to disclose the matters, but as it was for academic purpose,
he readily agreed.
Further he provided us with insights on the evolution of IT in SBI and how
it is and it will help in the organization to improve its process. The abstract
of our discussion has been listed put below for better understanding:-
 SBI is using software developed by TCS (Tata Consultancy Services). It has
been over a decade that SBI has been doing computerization of its branches.
In 1991 they started working on“Bandmaster” System developed by kindle, anIrish
company but now they have startedworking on “Core banking solution”
(CBS)developed by Tata consultancy services
 Extending across the entire organization.
 This branch has been in existence since last 4 years. It was computerized from
the beginning itself.
 But manager shared his experience when bank was not computerized; they had
to perform all the transactions manually. The biggest disadvantage of that was
the speed of work was at its minimum and to add this there were issued of
accuracy as well.
 He said that many customers would often complain about wrong debits in
their account, delayed effect of transactions etc.
 Further, it was a cumbersome process to finalize the accounts at the year end
with SBI carrying such a huge volume of transactions.
 They believe that IT system has been a boon for them as it will not only
reduce their efforts, but will also bring effectiveness in their work through
software taking care of each and every natty gritty of transactions.
 He said that, it is target of the bank to make 100% computerization, which will
be achieved soon and once we do that, it will be a paradigm shift in banking
 He explained how it will become a paperless banking experience which is good
for Bankers, Customers as well as environment.
