Enrolment in Higher Education
In 2008/09, total HE enrolment (excluding
PCL students) is 284,973, with TU claiming
the largest share (88.6 percent).
The distribution of total HE enrolment across
the ecological belts being hills (65.2 percent,
highest), mountains (2.9 percent, lowest), and
tarai 31.9 percent. Across the development
regions, it is central 55.4 percent (largest), far
western 4.9 percent (smallest), eastern 16.8
percent, western 15.9 percent, and midwestern
7 percent.


Gender Parity Index (GPI)

In 2008/09, GPI in HE (excluding PCL students)
is 0.7. By ecological belts, the breakdown
is 0.7 (hills), 0.7 (tarai), and 0.6(mountain),
and for the development regions it
is western 0.9 (highest), mid-western 0.4
(lowest) and far western


Graduates
The figure on graduation in this report
includes those students participated in the
convocation programs. Between 2005-08,
the total number of HE graduates (excluding
PCL students) stood at 128,805 which mean
an annual average of thirty thousand students
graduating.


Share of Girls in HE Enrolment
The share of girls in HE enrolment remians 40
percent in 2008/09. In terms of the ecological
belts, the girl’s distribution recording a higher
figure above 35 percent in each belt: hills 40 percent,
tarai 40 percent, and mountain 36 percent.



Student-Teacher Ratios
In 2008/09, the overall average studentteacher
ratio (number of students per
teacher) is 28:1 (including Instructors).
Excluding instructors it hold by 34:1, the
maximum ratio at NAMS (1:1) followed by
NSU (5:1), TU (29:1), KU (14:1), PokU (11:1),
PurU (19:1), and BPKIHS (10:1).
