1. Dynamic pounding of tall buildings: In big cities buildings are located nearby, so it is always important to understand the minimum spacing between the structures so that they do not collide with each other during earthquake. You can study that considering the soil structure interaction.
2. Lateral Force Resisting Systems: Study different systems for resisting loads like earthquake and wind and consider Tuned mass dampers, viscous dampers, Braced frames, Moment frames, Outrigger and truss, belt wall, shear wall or any hybrid, but this will give you a deep insight.
3. Stiffness vs deflection: This seems basic, but when you go to a complete building stiffness then you should study the deflection caused by lateral forces in the building and how can you reduce them, either by just increasing the size of column or beam or both.
4. Progressive collapse of structures: This is my all time favourites. You don't require only mathematics, but you need to connect all the studies of structural engineering. It requires a lot of pain and effort to study this accurately.
5. Earthquake engineering using theory of waves instead of vibration. You will love the works of Rayleigh, Timoshenko, Euler and Bernoulli.
6. Specific to seminar: You can discuss the concepts required in designing a complete structure.
7. Robustness: How it can be very effective in case of accidental loads.
8. Plastic analysis of structures. Go beyond elasticity and get to know the non linear behaviour of structure.
9. Pushover analysis: Well, it's not so difficult to perform but to understand at the grass root level you need to know the concepts and behaviour of the structures.
