The Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) is an electronic power device that is used to inject three-phase voltage in series and in synchronism with the voltages of the distribution feeder to compensate for voltage sag. This work presents the operation of a DVR. The power circuit of a DVR is explained along with the control techniques used for the compensation. The operation of the software phase lock phase (SPLL) and its stability is analyzed. The DVR control system is described and verified by simulation. The control algorithm implemented using DSP was tested using generated input voltage signals and the results are also presented. The microcycle effect of the battery current is also investigated for a balanced and unbalanced balance.
The Dynamic Voltage Restore (DVR) is a custom power supply device used to counteract voltage losses. It injects three-phase alternating voltages controlled in series with the supply voltage, after a voltage sink, to improve the voltage quality by adjusting the magnitude of the voltage, waveform and phase angle. The line harmonic filter consists of the leakage inductance of the series transformer and the filter capacitor. The DVR is conventionally avoided during a downstream failure to avoid possible adverse impacts on the fault and to protect the DVR components against the fault current. A technically designed approach for more efficient use of the DVR is to equip it with additional controls and also to limit or interrupt downstream fault currents. A control approach is provided to allow a DVR to function as a fault current limiter. The main drawback of this approach is that the DC link voltage of the DVR increases due to the actual power absorption during the fault current limiting operation and requires a switch to avoid the DVR when the protection relays are not rapidly dependent on the Fault conditions Clean the fault.
