The 2D discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is the most important image compression technique of the last decade. Conventionally, the DWT 2D is carried out as a separable transform by cascade connection of two 1D transforms in the vertical and horizontal direction. Therefore, the disappearance moments of high-pass wavelet filters exist only in these two directions. The detachable transform does not provide an efficient representation of directional image characteristics, such as edges and lines, not vertically or horizontally aligned, as it distributes the energy of these characteristics through subbands.
The Wavelet series is a representation of a square-integrable function (real or complex-valued) by a certain orthonormal series generated by a wavelet.
