DTMF Based Interfacing and Control of Induction Motor using TRIAC

The AC induction motor is the most commonly used AC motor in industrial application because of its simplicity, rugged construction, and relatively low manufacturing costs. The reason that the AC induction motor has these characteristics is because the rotor is a self-contained unit, with no external connections. This types of motor devices its name from the fact that AC currents are induced into the rotor by a rotating magnetic field.
Our project deals with wire communication and is used to control the motor speed. Out of all the controlling mechanisms, Microcontroller Hardware Description Language proves to be effective than any. It aims at controlling the appliances from anywhere, at any instant of time. Digital means of controlling gives accurate results compared to the approximation of analog systems. In this project, “DTMF Based Interfacing and Control of Induction Motor using TRIAC”, the speed of the induction motor is controlled through DTMF signal which is present in our mobile phones.

Proposed system:

In this proposed system, the speed of the induction motor can be controlled through the DTMF signal from the remote place. The induction motor is controlled by pressing the keys from the mobile
Every key will be having a unique tone, which is decided by combination of keypad‘s column frequency and row frequency. The DTMF decoder spits the frequencies and then it converts the frequencies in to binary values.
In receiver section the mobile phone is interfaced with DTMF (Dual Tone Multi Frequency) decoder, the decoder detects the signal and then the decoded information’s are transferred to the microcontroller unit. Then the controller unit controls the induction motor with the help of control circuit. The control circuit has a MOC3021 Optocoupler based TRIAC driver and TRIAC 2N6070. Based on the Pulse given by the microcontroller, speed of the induction motor varies.

POWER SUPPLY

The ac voltage, typically 220V rms, is connected to a transformer, which steps that ac voltage down to the level of the desired dc output. A diode rectifier then provides a full-wave rectified voltage that is initially filtered by a simple capacitor filter to produce a dc voltage. This resulting dc voltage usually has some ripple or ac voltage variation.
A regulator circuit removes the ripples and also remains the same dc value even if the input dc voltage varies, or the load connected to the output dc voltage changes. This voltage regulation is usually obtained using one of the popular voltage regulator IC units.
