WebOS, also known as Open WebOS or LG WebOS (formerly known as HP WebOS and Palm WebOS, stylized as webOS) is a Linux-based kernel-based multitasking operating system for smart devices such as Smart TV and has been used as a system Mobile operating system. Initially developed by Palm (which was acquired by Hewlett-Packard), HP made the open source platform, at which point it became Open WebOS. The operating system was later sold to LG Electronics. HP still has many patents related to WebOS. In January 2014, Qualcomm announced that it had acquired technology patents from HP, which included all WebOS patents. Several versions of WebOS have appeared on several devices, including smartphones Pre, Pixi and Veer, the TouchPad tablet, LG smart TVs since 2015.
WebOS is an LG-owned, Linux-based operating system that is configured to allow control and access to the most advanced features and connected devices of the LG Smart TV through a graphical user interface (GUI). WebOS was developed by Palm as a mobile operating system. The company launched it in 2009 as Palm webOS. Hewlett Packard acquired the palm in April 2010. The operating system was used on a number of Palm and HP smartphones before being modified for use on HP Tablet PCs such as the TouchPad. After the TouchPad failed to gain market share, HP made open source webOS. LG bought webOS in February 2013 and modified it as a smart TV operating system.
