Aravind has provided a few references (the usual suspects, with respect to control theory books) that are really good. Let me talk about some other references that the OP may find useful. Also, depending on how "advanced" you want to go, references will change from texts/books to papers in journals/conferences.

Digital Control ('traditional' advanced control):

Most of the control implemented is often digital/discrete, based on sampled systems, even if the original model is continuous. Prof. Kannan Moudgalya's book, Digital Control is an excellent book that discusses digital control in rich detail, beginning from the modelling of sampled data systems, frequency domain analysis, identification, discrete PID, internal model control, minimum variance control, LQGs, LQRs, model predictive control for transfer function (z-transform based) models, and state space based methods as well for discrete time systems. It is a very comprehensive reference for discrete time systems' modelling and control.

Control in a graph/network setting (little less traditional)

(1) Network Games, by Ishai Menache and Asuman Ozdaglar - This book takes a game theory based approach to network optimisation and control and is extremely relevant to control problems in communication systems.

(2) Graph Theoretic Methods in Multiagent Networks, by Magnus Egerstedt and Mehran Mesbahi - This is an excellent reference for graph theoretic methods for analysis and synthesis of graph based interaction models, in which a lot of the ideas can be used in fields ranging from swarm robotics, nano-devices, power grids, social networks and even biological systems.

All the references provide a reasonable mathematical background for the theory discussed in them, but it is always better to know the requisite maths before jumping in. So for 'traditional' control, a sound grasp of linear algebra, complex variables and some optimisation is a must. For the network stuff, know your graph theory (and optimisation, you need this for all control). I could write on and on about many more excellent books, but I'll limit myself to these.
