Radio waves are easy to generate and are widely used for indoor and outdoor communications because of their ability to traverse buildings and travel long distances.
The key features are :-
• Because radio transmission is omnidirectional by nature, the need to physically align the transmitter and receiver does not arise.
• The frequency of the radio wave determines many of the characteristics of the transmission.
• At low frequencies, waves can easily cross obstacles. However, its power falls with an inverse square relation with respect to distance.
• Higher frequency waves are more prone to absorption by raindrops and are reflected by obstacles.
• Due to the long transmission range of radio waves, interference between transmissions is a problem that must be addressed.
