Distribution Automation
The IEEE defines the distribution automation systems as "systems that enable an electric utility to monitor, coordinate, and operate distribution components in a real-time mode from remote locations. "
The Electricity Utilities are competing to find the ways to improve their levels of service and also to reduce the cost of operation. Facilities to provide automated responses to faults , providing remote control to their Distribution Network etc are some of the methods. A D i s t r i b u t i o n Automation(D A ) System e n h a n c e s t h e efficiency and productivity of a utility.market advantages and improved public image are some other benefits. The DA system is modular and the various modules may consist of remote monitoring and control of substation, feeder and consumer devices, and loads.
BENEFITS OF DI!STRIBUTION AUTOMATION
the expected benefits from the DA system must be identified and quantified to the practical extent. Some of the benefits include:
-Enhanced system efficiency and consumer satisfaction
-Improved outage response and restoration
-Deferred capital expenditures etc
