A distributed system is a software system in which the components located in networked computers communicate and coordinate their actions through the passage of messages. The components interact with each other to achieve a common goal. Distributed applications (distributed applications) are applications or software that run on multiple computers within a network at the same time and can be stored on servers or with cloud computing. This course provides an in-depth understanding of the fundamental principles and models underlying the theory, algorithms, and aspects of distributed computing systems. It will also cover some emerging issues such as point-to-point computing, distributed hash table, Google's file system, HDFS, spark, sensor networks and security in distributed systems. Upon completion of this course, students will have intimate knowledge of how things work in a distributed environment.
