hi i am kavitha.right now i am doing my m.tech project on digital image processing.so i need information about my project.i am mainly concentrating on preprocessing operations i.e atmospheric correction(AC)and radiometric correction.i want to know the parameters considered for AC,factors that are responsible for loss of signal due to AC and also all the methods used for AC.

Digital image processing is the use of computer algorithms to perform image processing on digital images. As a subcategory or field of digital signal processing, digital image processing has many advantages over analog image processing. It allows a much wider range of algorithms to be applied to the input data and can avoid problems such as the build-up of noise and signal distortion during processing. Digital processing did not originate with remote sensing and is not restricted to these data. Many image-processing techniques were developed in the medical field to process X-ray images and images from sophisticated body-scanning devices. For remote sensing, the initial impetus was the program of unmanned planetary satellites in the 1960s that telemetered, or transmitted, images to ground receiving stations. The low quality of the images required the development of processing techniques to make the images useful. Another impetus was the Landsat program, which began in 1972 and provided repeated worldwide coverage in digital format. A third impetus is the continued development of faster and more powerful computers, peripheral equipment, and software that are suitable for image processing.Expect EE368 to be offered each year. Note that we will not cover compression in EE368. Image and Video Compression will be discussed in EE 398A/B.

A good book, clear and easy to understand, and it is also easy to implement the algorithms mentioned in the book in a real application. I used it as a textbook on image processing class. Compared to other books in the imagery, this book is a clear winner. The only drawback is price. Other things to remember is that this book is quite old in the image processing and computer graphics always advanced in the field.
