Dnc is more like a protocol used to send programs to the cnc machine.
Sometimes programs are programmed externally and have to be send to the machine. This is done by DNC. Or, the program is too big for the machines memory and will be dripfeed to the machine. Also, DNC is used for this.
They're basically completely different things.
DNC stands for direct numerical control whereas CNC stands for computer numerical control.
Also, newer machines may have a usb port or a build in hard disk, running programs from these data sources is also DNC.
