Design review
Design review is a milestone within a product development process whereby a design is evaluated according to its needs to verify the results of previous activities and identify problems before committing to - and if necessary to return to Prioritize - The definitive review of the design, if successful, therefore, triggers the release of the product or the release of the product. The design review provides a forum in which questions can be answered, assumptions clarified and advice sought. They are a useful mechanism by which the design of a product can be optimized through a systematic review and feedback on the results of the design process. There are usually several formal and informal reviews during the duration of a design project. These reviews can last a few hours or a few days depending on the scope and phase of the project
Content of a Design Review
In order to evaluate a design with respect to its requirements, several means can be considered, such as:
Physical tests.
Engineering simulations.
Exams (Walk-through).
Project activities where design reviews are useful:
☛ Definition of requirements
☛ Conceptual design
☛ Detail design
☛ Development and Qualification
☛ Production
Other tools that are useful in conjunction with design reviews:
☛ Effective Meetings
☛ Requirements management
Introduction
In general, design reviews facilitate communication between the design team, the management and the customer. The management and the customer receive information about the technical state of the product, while the design team receives valuable information on design-related issues. The objectives of a design review are to ensure that all reasonable contributing factors and design options have been considered and that the design meets the requirements as described in the Product Development Specification. The design team is responsible for providing an accurate and concise description of the design to date and facilitating productive discussions. Reviewers are responsible for evaluating the design to ensure that it can be produced, tested, installed, operated and maintained in a manner that is acceptable to the customer
