DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF LASER SHEET BASED FLOW VISUALIZATION SET-UP FOR CALANDRIA BASED NUCLEAR REACTOR
INTRODUCTION:

The understanding of Fluid Flow phenomenon
Main role of flow visualization in experimental and Computational fluid dynamics
Analysis of Nuclear reactor i.e. Calandria (PHWR) is most often accomplished with small scale model, in Flow Visualization Technique with LASER and commercially available CFD package.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM:
Understanding of Three-Dimensional distributions of Flow and Phase changes.
The moderator flow and the temperature distribution within the calandria is significant in safety analysis
The moderator is assumed to be an effective Heat sink
It is essential to understand the dominating parameters, the flow circulation patterns and the temperature distributions that would provide feed back for the design studies.
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY:
Flow visualization setup & flow visualization study in Newly designed Calandria model.
Develop new techniques to generate uniform seeding material.
To carry out computational as well as experimental analysis in Calandria with Fuel Rods.
SCOPE OF THE STUDY:
The scope of study encompasses heat transfer process at different positions of inlet and outlet valves.
The flow pattern investigation based on FVT will give deep insight into the type of velocity profile inside the models and its significance on heat transfer study to be carried out
The work assumes significance for preliminary design considerations of the reactors and for the detailed and critical parametric analysis that prove to be expensive.
LIMITATIONS OF PRESENT STUDY:
The flow studies for Calandria model is done for particular model.
Complicated bubble dynamics process that occurs at the surface of the pipe-wall.
Thermal Analysis is not desirable with the present model, with higher temperatures whose limiting value is 60°c.

Definition: CANDU Reactor consists of horizontal Cylinder, with fuel and coolant tubes arranged horizontal position, called as Calandria.
