The Delhi Metro (Hindi: लिल्ली मेट्रो) is a subway system serving Delhi and its satellite cities of Faridabad, Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad in the National Capital Region in India. Delhi Metro is the world's 12th largest metro system in terms of length and number of stations. A member of the Nova Group of Meters, the network consists of five regular colour-coded lines and the fastest Airport Express line, with a total length of 213 kilometers (132 miles) serving 160 stations (including 6 on the Airport Express line ). The system has a mix of underground, grade and elevated stations using both standard width and standard gauge. The metro has a daily average of 2.661 million passengers and, as of August 2010, had already transported more than 1.25 million passengers since its inception.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC), a state-owned company with equal participation of the Government of India and the Government of Delhi, built and operates the Delhi Metro. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has been certified by the United Nations as the world's first rail and rail system to obtain "carbon credits to reduce greenhouse gas emissions" and help reduce pollution levels in the city At 630,000 tonnes each year. DMRC operates around 2000 daily trips between 05:30 to 00:00 running with an advance that varies between 1-2 minutes and 4-10 minutes. Trains are usually six and eight buses. The output power is supplied by 25 kilovolts, 50 Hz AC across the overhead catenary.

Metro planning began in 1984, when the Delhi Development Authority and the Urban Arts Commission presented a proposal to develop a multimodal transport system for the city. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was incorporated in May 1995, construction began in 1998, and the first section, on the Red Line, opened in 2002. The development of the network was divided into phases, phase I containing 3 Lines were completed in 2006 and Phase II in 2011. Phase III is scheduled to be completed in 2017 (originally planned for 2016).

MetroRail Rapid Gurgaon, which opened in 2013, although it is linked to the Delhi subway by the yellow line is a separate subway system (with a different owner / operator of the Delhi subway), although the Delhi subway tokens can be Use on your network. The concept of a massive rapid transit for New Delhi first emerged from a study of traffic and travel characteristics that took place in the city in 1969. Over the next few years, many official committees of various government departments were commissioned to examine Issues related to technology, route alignment and government jurisdiction. In 1984 the Delhi Development Authority and the Urban Arts Commission drew up a proposal to develop a multimodal transport system consisting of the construction of three mass transit subway corridors and the expansion of suburban rail and Highway of the city.

While extensive technical studies and funding for the project were in progress, the city expanded significantly resulting in a double increase in population and a fivefold increase in the number of vehicles between 1981 and 1998. As a result, congestion Traffic and pollution soared, as an increasing number of travelers took private vehicles with the existing bus system unable to bear the load. An attempt to privatize the bus transportation system in 1992 simply aggravated the problem, as inexperienced operators handle poorly maintained, noisy and polluting buses on long routes, resulting in long waiting times, unreliable service, extreme overcrowding, unskilled drivers , Speeding and reckless driving. To remedy the situation, on 3 May 1995, the Government of India and the Government of Delhi jointly created a company called the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), in which E. Sreedharan was the managing director.
