A bug tracking system or bug tracking system is a software application that tracks software errors reported in software development projects. It can be considered as a type of problem tracking system. Many bug tracking systems, such as those used by most open source software projects, allow end users to enter bug reports directly. Other systems are used only internally in a company or organization that performs software development. Typically, bug tracking systems are integrated with other software project management applications. A bug tracking system is often a necessary component of a good software development infrastructure and the constant use of a bug or tracking system is considered one of the "seals of a good software team."Defect tracking is the process of tracking defects registered in a product from the beginning to the end (by inspection, testing or recording customer feedback) and making new product versions that correct defects. Defect tracking is important in software engineering since complex software systems typically have tens or hundreds or thousands of defects: managing, evaluating and prioritizing these defects is a difficult task. When the number of defects becomes quite large, and defects need to be tracked for long periods of time, using a defect tracking system can make the task management much easier.
