Customer Portal for a Mutual Fund company
Background
PMS is a Mutual Fund Management company with assets under management of over Rs.1,000 crores. Currently, PMS receives customer transactions and complaints through paper forms. The company maintains the investor information and the holding information for all mutual fund schemes on Oracle Database servers located in its highly secured data centers. The paper forms are entered into the backend system and are processed in a batch mode overnight.
PMS has decided to develop a web-based system to empower customers to manage their portfolios and perform various financial and non-financial transactions without them having to visit the branch offices of PMS. It has been decided that all non-financial transactions will be processed online. The financial transactions will be stored in the database and will continue to be processed overnight in the batch mode.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE PORTAL
In the new system, users can enter their financial and non-financial transactions using a web interface accessible over internet.
Registration
While opening a Mutual fund account, PMS issues a Personal Identification Number (PIN) for the Folio Number mentioned in the application form.
Upon receiving the PIN, user can register online by providing the Folio Number, PIN and email id. User can choose a unique user id and password for accessing the system.
The PIN will be validated against the Folio number in the PMS database.
A user can invest in various mutual fund schemes of PMS and each will have a separate folio number. PIN will be different for each folio. User may change the PIN to make it standard across all his folios.
Mapping Facilities
User can either update his/her own portfolio or create a family portfolio.
Own Portfolio:
System will automatically create Own Portfolio for the user using the Folio number and PIN entered during registration. User can add additional folios to the portfolio by entering folio number and PIN.
Family Portfolio:
User can create multiple family portfolios. In each portfolio, he/she can map several folio numbers. A Valid PIN must be entered for each folio number.
User can view holdings in each of the folios in own portfolio and family portfolios. User can also view transactions under any folio and scheme, with a date range, where default range is FYTD (Financial Year to Date). Users can also generate account statements for any folio and scheme.
Users will be able to add or remove folios from their portfolios at any time.
Transactions
Financial transactions will be allowed only for Own folios. Transactions are not allowed on family folios.
A list of financial and non-financial transactions are given below. Each transaction will be logged in the PMS database. PMS will validate the transaction and return a reference number in case the transaction is accepted. If the validation fails, an error is returned.
All financial transactions (Additional purchase, redemption, and switch) will be processed by PMS in a batch mode along with other transactions received in manual form. All the non-financial transactions (change of contact details, dividend option, bank mandate, password and, PIN) are processed online. The queries / complaints posted by users will be stored in PMS database for further processing. Users can query on the status of queries / complaints through the portal.
The portal will maintain statistics regarding the number of users registered, average number of folios, number of transactions (financial and non-financial) performed each day etc.
