Although the Vedic texts mention the use of incense to mask smells and create a pleasing odor, the modern organized system of incense manufacture was probably created by the medical priests of the time. Therefore, the modern and organized manufacture of incense is intrinsically linked to the Ayurvedic medical system in which it is rooted.
