I recently attended a 4-hour workshop for home-grown/backyard mushroom growing organized biofuel oasis in Berkeley, California. Patty and Ray Lanier mushroom masters in both Auckland and located in Lake County, California, were featured speakers de Este seminar.

The workshop began with a short PowerPoint presentation on the history and folklore of the fungus, the life cycle of the fungus, and both fungi play an important role in our ecosystem. After a PowerPoint presentation, Patty and Ray led the group through some practical projects, which focus on this blog entry.

I was surprised to learn how easy it was/is raising several varieties of mushrooms at home, in particular oyster and wine Cap mushroom (King Stropharia). Below are instructions on how to grow Oyster Mushrooms at home. The cultivation of mushrooms Cap wine easier and will be discussed in one of my upcoming blog posts.

Oyster Mushrooms

Oyster Mushrooms are aggressive and ready to grow.

Materials needed:

1. a big pot (for example, canning pot)

2. a large colander

3. big bag mesh (for example, the onion bag from the supermarket)

4.1 bag of mushrooms innoculent (available online)

5. a cylindrical plastic bag (for example, that the newspaper plastic bags come or big plastic bread bag)

6.1 bag/jar of grain spawn (can be purchased easily on the Internet)

Step 1: heat-treat (not spayed) clean wheat straw (Note: there was no straw), which can be purchased inexpensively from a well-stocked shop feed 150-180 degrees F heat for 45-60 minutes. Maybe this will help place the wheat straw in a mesh bag like the onion bag to keep the straw together.

Step 2: once you have pasteurized straw, let it dry by placing it in a colander.

Step 3: Sterilize all surfaces, tools, arms, etc., with alcohol. Empty the contents of the STI mesh bag of straw and straw (straw should be warm to the touch) on the surface of the sterile So the straw layer has a thickness of 2 to 3 inches.

Step 4: take the for handfuls of grain spawn and throw it on the straw to the point on the surface of grain straw. Work grain mycelium in the straw.

Step 5: Material straw in your cylindrical plastic bag, squeezing the straw so that the bag firmly (but not overly) packed. Tie the bag.

Step 6: Take a nail or sharp scissors and Pierce the bag that makes random cuts 1 inch around the bag, but not to the extent straw is starting to fall out. It is to air bag while maintaining a moist environment for spawning. Wipe the bag with the spirit to keep it sterile.

Step 7: put the bag in a shady area in the room (that is, not in direct sunlight) in an area where the temperature is 60-75 degrees. Keep a bag of moist, but not soggy, by spraying with aerosol spray bottles filled with water. You should see signs of oyster mushrooms in 2 weeks (magazine will turn white), at this time, you can keep the bag indoors or search for it in the shady part of your yard, protected from the wind and Sun and heat. When the caps of mushroom flatten out, it's time to harvest. Don't wait too long, because fungi can grow past the prime of life just 1 day.
