Since crosstalk on an on-chip bus depends to a large extent on the data patterns transmitted on the bus, crosstalk-avoidance coding schemes have been proposed for increasing bus speed and / or reducing overall power consumption. Despite the availability of the codes, a systematic assignment of data words to codewords for the CODEC design has not been proposed. This is mainly due to the non-linear nature of crosstalk avoidance (CAC) codes. The lack of practical CODEC construction schemes has hampered the use of such codes in practical designs. This paper presents the guidelines for the design of the CODEC of the "code of evasion of free crosstalk of prohibited pattern" (FPF-CAC). We analyze the properties of the FPF-CAC and show that there is a mathematical mapping scheme based on the representation of numbers in the Fibonacci number system. Our first proposed CODEC design offers nearly optimum area overload performance. An improved version of the CODEC is presented, which achieves optimum theoretical performance.
Investigate implementation details of CODECs, including design complexity and speed. Optimization schemes are provided to reduce the size of the CODEC and improve its speed. The coupling capacitance between wires can lead to crosstalk failures that significantly limit the reliability of NOCs. In this paper, we propose a numerical crosstalk avoidance code that can skip the triplet opposite direction (TOD) transitions produced by crosstalk failures. The proposed coding is unambiguous and uses the entire keyword space. Simulations using VHDL for different channel widths show that the proposed method can reduce crosstalk failure in NoC links with insignificant energy and area costs.
