The Aviation Research Center (ARC) is part of the Research and Analysis (R & AW) wing of the Cabinet Secretariat (Special Requirements) India. The first head of the ARC was R. N. Kao, the legendary founding chief of R & AW. Throughout the years, the ARC has become a great operation and flies a large and varied fleet that until recently included the MIG-25 capable of flying high Mach 3.

From its humble origin, which consists of Helio Twin Courier, borrowed from the United States Air Force, ARC today boasts fixed-wing transport aircraft such as the Russian IL-76 and AN-32. It also has General Dynamics Gulfstream III and Global 5000 aircraft. The helicopter inventory includes Russian Mil Mi-17s and a mixture of locally constructed cheetahs (French modified Alouette II) and Chetaks (Alouette IIIs). The weapon chosen by ARC was the MIG-25 (also called Foxbat by NATO) that was used for reconnaissance at high altitude (the aircraft was dismantled in 2006 and is no longer in service). Rumors abound that India's second attack capability falls on the ARC. It is also believed that ARC is the first wing of Indian intelligence agencies to induce the "Pilotless Target Aircraft" (PTA) originally built in India, Lakshya. Lakshya is equipped with an advanced support system to help you perform tactical aerial exploration on the battlefield, including the acquisition of targets. The 6-foot-long Lakshya (1.8 m) is equipped with a digitally controlled engine that can be operated from the ground using a remote control. Lakshya had been designed by the Aeronautical Development Establishment, Bangalore. Lakshya is a reusable aerial target system of high surface and launch launched on surface / ship, piloted remotely from the ground. It provides training to the crew of weapons and missiles and to the air defense pilots for the participation of weapons.
