Better lines to start anchoring in an event

Well, it all depends on you. When I started to anchor I was told, do it this way and do it that way. Keep it so long, keep it short. But really, if you take away the technical details (can not exceed x minutes, due to schedule / must be formal, the audience is really conservative) is up to you.

The style I have always gravitated towards is either to keep the conversation script (How would I tell my friend all this? (While it is kept formal / informal)) or history as.

As such, the principle has been an integral part of the script, so varied in the way the script was written. That is, not such "best lines to start a script" for me.

Let me give some examples for formal anchoring -

April 19, 2012. Early in the morning 8:05 AM. I would like to imagine that the birds were chirping on another beautiful morning on Wheeler Island, just off the coast of Odisha. But then, suddenly, the dream of the forests surrounding the missile launch facility was quite ..................... the story of Agni V, which promises Be the first true intercontinental ballistic missile in India. But remarkably, it is just another chapter in the illustrious life of our next speaker, a person who does not need presentation, the missile woman of India - XXXX XXXX.

[Series of lectures, Techniche'14]

A very long introduction, very different from what I was told is a proper introduction - but it did the trick. Huge crowd, hung on my every word for the next 1 and 1/2 minutes.

Some traditional welcome lines are -

Ladies and gentlemen, a warm welcome to the __ edition IIT Guwahati annual ___ festival _____ presents ___!

... And other variations of it.

But in my experience, it is best to start differently to get everyone's attention. The longer it takes to reach its "hook," the harder it becomes to get its attention and in the case of undisciplined crowds (especially in informal events) the more difficult it is to control the crowd.

However, if you have something interesting and interesting immediately aligned after the introduction, I think going for a simple "classic" introduction like "Ladies and gentlemen ..." is elegant.

Another interesting script he had written began like this:

Jago re

"Daag acche hai"

"What a Sirji Idea"

These taglines, I'm sure, are very familiar to you. Today, we can safely say, they have changed what the word "commercial" means to us.

So a very good afternoon to one and all. You'll be happy to know that the next IC speaker to take the mic is none other than the man behind these jewels in the world of advertising, Mr. XXXX.

[Industrial Conclave, Techniche'14]

Here the idea was to get their attention with things they know.

Anyway, the idea is that the whole script must decide the beginning. And if you simply looked for lines to start with and did not really want all the things I just threw: P, then I'd say "Ladies and Gentlemen, a warm welcome ..." or "A Good Night to .." Formal anchoring, and for informal events - you can actually go with anything - I've done "What's up people?" Several times (only when improvised though: P).

PD I would have given some of my * best * examples, but there the intros ran ... err ... long. You may have noticed that they tend to be a little ... err .. verbose: P
