COLLEGE AUTOMATION SYSTEM

[attachment=16720]
Introduction

There's much more to doing your bit for the environment than the habits we change at home. We
also need to change other aspects of our day-to-day lives too including our school and college
lives. Teachers and Students can set the example and encourage the whole community to get
involved and go green. And we can start being green at school and college straightaway.
We are going to build a new device that would help the facility saves energy.

User Input Pad:
The User Input Pad will allow the user to key in his desired duration time of the AC and
lightsystems (Maximum: 2 hours) in Free Mode or set a regular schedule in Schedule Mode.
Also, they can adjust the temperature within a certain range (50F – 80F). The information will be
sent to the microcontroller.

Temperature Sensor:
The Temperature Sensor will detect the room temperature and send information to the microcontroller. Here we are using NTC Thermistor large negative temperature coefficient of resistance. The NTC thermistors which are discussed herein are composed of metal oxides. The most commonly used oxides are those of manganese, nickel, cobalt,
iron, copper and titanium.

Microcontroller
The microcontroller will receive input signals from the sensors and keypad regarding the user input and the room temperature, and it will send output signals to the temperature and lighting controls according to this information.. The device is manufactured using Atmel’s high-density nonvolatile memory technology and is compatible with the industry-standard 80C51 instruction set and pinout.

Passive Infrared Sensor
A Passive InfraRed sensor (PIR sensor) is an electronic device that measures infrared (IR) light radiating from objects in its field of view. PIR sensors are often used in the construction of PIR-based motion detectors Apparent motion is detected when an infrared source with one temperature, such as a human, passes in front of an infrared source with another temperature such as a wall.
