Justifications for the given project

There is a great demand of electricity in industrial facilities, but the cost of this type of energy is relatively high. It is said that by 2015 electricity prices are projected to atleast double from 2008 levels. Due to competitive pressures to use energy more efficiently the design project of a CO gas generation plant is the ultimate solution. This COgeneration will be on-site and will focus on utilising energy at optimum efficiency in a cost effective and environmentally responsible way, it will also aim at increasing the power’s reliability as well as reduce the power costs.

Delimitation of the project

The project is about generating electricity on-site using the CO gas from one of the plants also situated on site. The project will include drawings – auto cad
The cogeneration system consist of the CO gas which is the main energy source,the engine, and the steam turbine that drives the generator.
It will also include the, protection, plc’s and the switchgear.
This project will be completed during the course of the semester.

Summary of how I intend tackling the project

I intend on tackling the project by interviewing well experienced engineers. Secondly by visiting the main substation on site, taking note of the protection system, plc’s, and the transmission system. Thirdly I plan on visiting the generator house to basically learn the whole operation and the design of a generator and research further on the generator that I will be using for the design project. Lastly I plan on visiting an existing but off-site Cogeneration plant.
