Solar powered lighting systems are now used in both rural and urban areas. These systems include solar lanterns, solar home lighting systems, solar streetlamps, solar garden lights, solar water heaters and solar power packs. They all consist of four components: solar PV module, rechargeable battery, solar charge controller and load. The solar charge controller plays an important role since the overall success of the system depends mainly on it. It is considered as an indispensable link between the solar panel, the battery and the load.
The solar resource is unlimited the government is trying to implement the use of solar panels as a source of energy in rural and suburban areas to turn on the street lights, but the battery used to store the power gets affected due to overload and discharges. This article presents the use of the PIC16F72 based solar charger controller to control the overload and discharge of a solar cell. It works by continuously optimizing the interface between the solar array and the battery. First, the variable power is set to 12.8 V DC - the voltage of a fully charged battery - and is linked to the battery point of the circuit. The battery voltage cut-off voltage is 10.8 volts. A PIC16F72 for small, small analog inputs is used to determine the voltage level of the battery and solar panel. It also describes how the disadvantages of the analog circuit are overcome by this controller. The flow chart is also provided.
Sustainable electrical sources such as solar photovoltaic panels are increasingly important as ecological alternatives to fossil fuels. But while environmentally friendly, sustainable sources are not always easy to apply. These sources are characterized by rigorous limitations of peak power and availability of "use it or lose it". The successful application of sustainable energy sources therefore depends on strict attention to efficiency both in energy conversion and in energy storage. A charge controller is an essential part of almost all power systems that charge batteries, whether the source of energy is PV, wind, hydro, fuel or power grid. Its purpose is to keep batteries properly powered and safe for the long term. A charge regulator is a regulator that goes between the solar panels and the batteries. Regulators for solar systems are designed to keep batteries charged to the maximum without overcharging. Meters for amps (of panels) and battery volts are optional with most types.
