This simple fingerprint sensor project using Arduino can be very useful for door security, forensics, criminal investigation, personal identification, assistance system and much more. In the future, there could be many more applications like fingerprint management licenses, bank account operations and so on. The entire system operates under an algorithm called a matching algorithm, which is used to compare pre-stored fingerprint templates with the fingerprints of users for authentication purposes.

Fingerprint based security system can be used in many places like Industries, Offices and Schools or even in our house. This project is an excellent combination of "Biometric Technology" and "Embedded Systems Technology". The fingerprint sensor is the main part of this system. Use the biometric sensor to detect fingerprints. Also called biometric sensor. Fingerprint sensor uses various types of techniques like ultrasonic method, optical method or thermal technique. In this project we have used optical fingerprint sensor. The main blocks of this project are Microcontroller, fingerprint module, buzzer, relay, keyboard, LCD screen and motor. The user has to place his finger on the part of the optical sensor of the fingerprint module. We have seen the security system based on password-based RFID security system. The main feature or specialty of the fingerprint is that it is unique. It gives this project high level security than other security systems. Recognition of people through the identification of fingerprints has been used for a long time. The most common example is use in criminal cases.

Circuit and working

The circuit shown in Fig. 1 operates on a 12V power supply. An Arduino microcontroller (MCU) only requires 5V but the elecric soleno lock requires 12V. As an Arduino Uno has a built-in 5V voltage regulator, a common 12V supply can be used for the entire system.

The circuit brain is Arduino Uno MCU board (BOARD1). It is based on ATmega328 / ATmega328P and has 14 digital input / output (I / O) pins, six analog inputs, 32k flash memory, 16MHz crystal oscillator, USB connection, power connector, ICSP header and reset button, among others. It can be programmed with the Arduino IDE software.
The fingerprint sensor module R305 (connected via CON2) has a UART interface with direct connections to the MCU or PC via the max232 / USB serial adapter. The user can store fingerprint data in the module and configure it in 1: 1 or 1: N mode for identification. The TX and RX pins of the R305 sensor are connected to the Arduino digital pins 2 and 3, which are used for serial communication.
The LCD (LCD1) is used to display messages during the action. Here a 16 × 2 screen is used; Each character is made up of 5 × 7 dot matrix. Pins 3, 4, 5 and 6 on the LCD are the control lines connected to the preset output (PR1), pin 12 (Arduino), GND and Pin 11 (Arduino). Pins 11, 12, 13, and 14 are LCD data pins that are connected to Arduino pins 7, 6, 5, and 4, respectively. Preset PR1 is used to adjust the contrast of the LCD screen.
An electronic door lock solenoid (connected through the CON3 connector) is basically an electromagnet made of a large coil of copper wire with an armature (metal ingot) in the middle. When the coil is energized, the nozzle is pushed toward the center of the coil. This allows the solenoid to move to one end.
