The Kannada language is written using the Kannada script, which evolved from the 5th-century Kadamba script. Kannada is attested epigraphically for about one and a half millennia, and literary Old Kannada flourished in the 6th-century Ganga dynasty[12] and during the 9th-century Rashtrakuta Dynasty. Kannada has an unbroken literary history of over a thousand years.Based on the recommendations of the Committee of Linguistic Experts, appointed by the ministry of culture, the government of India designated Kannada a classical language of India. In July 2011, a centre for the study of classical Kannada was established as part of the Central Institute of Indian Languages at Mysore to facilitate research related to the language.

The Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), established in 1951 under the provisions of the Constitution, recruits candidates to the various civil services across the state. The selection is done on the basis of marks scored by candidates in the commission’s examination ( preliminary and main) and personality test. For some services in the state, the commission only conducts written competitive examination or takes a personality test of the candidate.

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

As per above rules candidates must have attained the age of 18 years and not attained the age of 40 years in case of a person belonging to the Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes or Cat-I, and 38 years in the case of other category and 35 in the case of General Merit Candidates, on the last date fixed for the receipt of Applications.

Candidate must have attained the age of 18 years and not attained the age of 35 years as on the last date specified for receipt of application or on such other date as may be specified by the Government.
Upper age limit shall be relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST and category I candidates.
Upper age limit shall be relaxed by 3 years for Other backward category candidates.
Upper age limit shall be relaxed by 10 years for Physically Handicapped or Widow candidates.
Upper age limit shall be relaxed in the case of a candidate who is a ex-serviceman, by the number of years of service rendered by him in the Armed forces of the Union.
Academic Qualification

Candidate should Possesses Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree awarded by a University established Law in India are Possesses an equivalent qualification.
Note : Candidates who have appeared for an examination, passing of which would render them educationally qualified for preliminary examination conducted by the Commission, but the results of which have not been declared, are also eligible for admission to such preliminary examination
