A home consists of one or more persons living in the same dwelling and also sharing meals or lodging, and may consist of a single family or some other group of persons. A single dwelling shall be considered to contain several households if the meals or living space are not shared. Home is the basic unit of analysis in many social, micro-economic, and governmental models, and is important for the fields of economics and heredity.
Household models include family, mixed family varieties, shared housing, group houses, guesthouses, multiple occupancy (UK) and single occupancy (US) occupations. In feudal societies, the royal family and the medieval homes of the rich would also have included servants and other inmates.
