The biggest limitation for a newspaper in the collection and processing of information is time. Unlike television and online media, daily newspapers are not 24x7 media. The work must be done within a fixed period of time.
The news sources are the news agencies, to which the newspapers are subscribed. The international ones are Reuters, AP, AFP, etc. In addition, each country has its own news agencies, such as ITP for India.
Each newspaper also has its own correspondents, who provide deep and analytical news reports.
Reports flow to the newsroom continuously through computers. There are many teams in the newsroom that process incoming news. There are typically five steps.
1. Selection of news for publication.
2. Prioritization of this selected news.
(These two are made based on the importance of the news - called news value.)
3. Editing (To ensure accuracy of facts, language, clarity and cohesion)
4. Design and layout of the page. (Meaning, actual manufacture of the product on the computer.)
5. Checking the printing of the pages and sending them to the press for printing.
The editorial production process is continuous, by different teams, such as for the Cover page, the National Pages, the International Pages, the Sports Pages, the Business Pages, etc. It is a team effort, with everyone participating in the preparation of the newspaper.
