In the boiler monitoring mode, the trigger is arranged to automatically maintain constant steam pressure and the turbine is controlled to accommodate the load required by the governor. In the turbine tracking mode, the turbine regulator valves are arranged to maintain constant vapor pressure and the boiler varies with variations in load or fuel supply. In sliding pressure mode the turbine valves are fully open and the pressure is allowed to equilibrate with the boiler outlet similar to that of the turbine, but without changing the valve position.
In balanced mode, the turbine valves and the firing of the boiler are adjusted at the same time by a computer model so that the pressure never changes, but the load varies as required. The boiler is still the old traditional way. The use of the turbine is useful in waste heat boilers. Slip pressure is used to prevent loss of throttling in larger turbines. Balanced is a modern mode that relies on good modeling.
