Rationing cards are an official document authorizing the holder to provide food, fuel or other goods issued by the Government of India, which are used mainly for the purchase of subsidized food (wheat and rice) and fuel (LPG and kerosene). The cards have been used since World War II and their use continues into the 21st century. They are an important subsistence tool for the poor, provide proof of identity and a connection to government databases. The Indian public distribution system (PDS) is based on the ration card, which it uses to establish identification, eligibility and entitlement.

Ration cards are issued through the Tamilnadu Public Distribution System for those wishing to purchase products at Ration stores. There are three types of cards issued depending on your choice. Details of the three types of ration cards and the products that can be issued for each type of card are described in detail below.

 All commodity cards - Green Colour - Rice and other raw materials.

 Sugar Cards - White - Sugar and other basic products, without rice.

 No matter cards - white color - no matter.

Applicants are requested not to contact the CA or TSO offices (unless submitting additional documents) within 30 days to avoid unnecessary workloads in the offices of this department. This will allow us to serve you better.

As soon as the application is submitted, the applicant must collect the acknowledgment receipt with the office stamp, date of application, serial number and date of final disposal.

The Government of Tamil Nadu has set the deadline for approval of requests for new rations within 60 days of the date of application.

Once the application is eligible for the issuance of a new family card, the card will be sent for printing. As soon as the printed card arrives at the office, the Taluk's assistant commissioner or supply officer must send a postcard to the applicant requesting that he pick up the ration card in person with the receipt of acknowledgement within 15 days .

In the event that the application is rejected, the Assistant Commissioner or Supply Officer of Taluk must send a postcard to the applicant stating the reasons for rejection within 60 days after the date of application.

If a mobile number or email address has been specified in the application form, the Civil Protection and Consumers department will send an automated message (to be activated at the end of 2008) to the applicant about the status of the request as soon as The application is decided on.

If there is "Delay Beyond 60 Days" from the "Application Date", then

Applicants may contact the Assistant Commissioner or the Taluk Supply Officer concerned and find out the reasons for the delay.

Officers and department staff are responsible for the action if they simply delay requests.

Applicants may speak with the Deputy Commissioner, North or Deputy Commissioner, South if within Chennai City and their belt area.

Applicants may speak with the District Officials of Supply and Consumer Protection of the district in question.
