Advantages of irrigation of Bandhara
1. The irrigation system has low initial cost.
2. Small amounts of water that would otherwise have been expended are used to the maximum in this system.
3. The channel length and distribution system are small, infiltration and evaporation losses are much lower.
4. The area to be irrigated is near the source, produces a high yield and intensive irrigation.
Disadvantages of irrigation of Bandhara
1. The irrigation area for a Bandhara is more or less fixed and, therefore, even if there is more water available for irrigation, it is lost.
2. If the river is non-perennial, the water supply becomes seasonal and unreliable in summer.
