The Federation of Cooperative Milk Producers of the State of Punjab (MILKFED) was born in 1973 to improve milk production in the state of Punjab. The main objective was to provide a lucrative milk market to state milk producers by adding value and marketing the products. Another objective was to provide technical inputs for the improvement of milk production.
Although the federation was registered quite early, it came in its true form in 1983 when the dairy plants of the former Punjab Dairy Development Corporation Limited were awarded to the Cooperative Sector under Operation Flood. The move was carried out in the state to provide better treatment to farmers and better products to customers.
MILKFED is established as a three tier system with the Federation as the central body at the state level, district-level milk unions and Cooperative Societies at village level. The organization has continually advanced towards its coveted goals well defined in its statutes.
