The automatic wiper system is used to detect precipitation and activate automatic wiper blades without driver interaction. The system was developed to mitigate driving distractions and allow drivers to focus on their primary driving task. The distraction eliminated with the development of this product is the manual adjustment of the windscreen wipers when driving in the rainfall. The few seconds a driver pulls his attention off the road to adjust a knob while driving in bad weather could potentially lead to auto accidents. The system uses a combination of impedance and impedance sensor to detect rainfall and its intensity. The system contains a controller that takes input signals from the sensors and controls the operation of the wiper blades based on those input signals. The prototype demonstration shows the basic operation of the system under standard conditions.

• L293D
• IC LM358
• Transistor BC557
• Resistors (1K, 10K, 2.2M)
• Capacitors (0.01uf, 0.47uf)
• DC motor
• Rain sensor
• Power supply (5-12v)
