Everywhere, at the crossroads between the railroad and the freeway there are so many railroad accidents that occur due to negligence in manual operations or the lack of workers. Therefore, this article describes the automatic gate control system that uses a PIC microcontroller to save precious human lives and prevent major disasters on the railroad. The railroad gate can be saved for road users to prevent accidents in terms of train speed at the level crossing. This system uses the PIC microcontroller 16F877A with the help of sensors. It can be divided into two parts. The first part is concern in the development of hardware where all electronic components have been included. Infrared sensors, inductive sensors are the input components, while the buzzer, the indicator light, the DC motor and the LCD are the output components. These are controlled by the regulator circuit. The microcontroller forms the main unit of the system. Receives input signal from the sensors and sends information to the gate motor controller to open and close the gate. In addition, the input signal activates the LCD display and the alarm and the indicator light circuit was provided as an additional part of this system. The first inductive sensor and the IR sensor are fixed at some distance from the gate and the second sensors are fixed at the same determined distance after the gate. The gate closes when the train crosses the first IR sensor and the gate opens when the train crosses the second IR sensor. This system deals with one of the effective methods to avoid train accidents. The second part is based on software programming to operate the hardware structure. The program for the rail gate control system is based on the PIC microcontroller with the PIC basic language.

However, railroad-related accidents are more dangerous than other transportation accidents. Therefore, more efforts are needed to improve their safety. Railways preferred the cheapest mode of transportation over all other means. This system is designed with the PIC microcontroller 16F877A to avoid rail accidents that occur at railroad gates where level passes. The microcontroller performs the complete operation, ie detecting, closing and opening the door. As a train approaches the rail crossing from both sides, the sensors located some distance from the door detect the approaching train and control the door operation. This system was operated after the signal received from the sensors. This signal is used to activate the microcontroller to operate the gate motor, the alarm system and the indicator lights.
