Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (abbreviated BSNL) is a telecommunications company owned by the Indian state based in New Delhi. It was incorporated on September 15, 2000 and assumed the business of providing telecommunications and network management services from the former Central Government Departments of Telecommunication Services (DTS) and Telecommunications Operations (DTO) since October 1, 2000 as company in operation. It is the largest provider of fixed telephony and broadband services with over 60% market share, and is the fifth largest mobile phone provider in India. However, in recent years, the company's revenues and market share have plummeted and caused large losses as a result of intense competition in the telecommunications privatization sector in India. BSNL is the oldest communications service provider in India and had a customer base of 93.29 million in June 2015. It has footprints all over India, except for Mumbai and New Delhi, where telecommunications are managed by Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL).
