A super specialized hospital is defined as a hospital that is devoted primarily and exclusively to the care and treatment of patients suffering from a specific disease. They offer specialized services to their patients. The Indian Health Industry has witnessed a sudden paradigm shift in the last decade. Although this change was inevitable and the industry has been working towards it for a decade, this has been visible only in recent years. The last years have been years of dramatic changes. In a similar study conducted in 2007, the quality of service of district hospitals, CHC, PHC, large hospitals, nursing homes and super specialties was evaluated. However, looking at the prolific growth of super specialized hospitals in the recent past, the present study has focused only on them. We approach the Quality Council of India (QCI) and the National Board of Hospital Accreditation (NABH), which operates the national accreditation structure in India and promote quality through the National Quality Campaign, for supporting us in the study. Only those super specialized hospitals that are accredited by NABH or are the applicants for it have been taken into account.
In order to evaluate the quality of service provided by super specialty hospitals we conducted survey in eleven cities across India, namely, Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Bhopal, Ahmedabad , Lucknow and Bhubaneshwar. About 3100 patients from twenty hospitals were contacted to find out the level of their satisfaction with the type of service provided at super specialty hospitals. About three-quarters of the clients had a good and solid financial situation. The sample covered all age groups, including children, young people and those over 50 years. The complete sample was segregated based on age, gender, educational qualification, financial status and occupation structure.
Super Specialty Hospital is a unit of MC Medical Services Pvt Ltd, Coimbatore. The hospital city unit is a three-story building located in the heart of the city of coimbatore on the road to Nanjappa.
