The Dr. Narla Tata Rao thermal power plant or the Vijayawada thermal power plant are located in Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. It is named after Dr. Narla Tata Rao, the former chairman of the Electricity Board of the State of Andhra Pradesh. The power plant is one of the coal plants of APGENCO. It is well located between the villages of Ibrahimpatnam and Iondapalli. The thermal power plant of Dr. Narla Tata Rao is also known as the Vijayawada thermal power station. It was developed in 4 stages, with a project cost of Rs 193 Crores and Rs 511 Crores respectively. Again with an investment of RS 840 Crores 2 units were put into operation under III Stage. The seventh 500 MW unit was put into service in 2009. The station ranked first in the country for 94-95, 95-96, 96-97, 97-98 and 2001-02, achieving the highest load factor of the plant. The station has received many prestigious recognitions from various organizations. The station has received Meritorious Productivity Awards for 21 consecutive years and Incentives for 12 consecutive years.
